GT Annual Golf Outing

Aug 18, 2014

This weekend was a big golf weekend with the GT Annual Golf Outing at Jericho National Golf Club, followed by a smaller get-together at Torresdale Frankford Country Club, recently purchased by the Union League of Philadelphia. DSC_0641 Jericho National was the scene of the annual gathering of GT Advisory Board members, clients and friends this past Friday with a lunch followed by 18 holes of golf on the classic Michael Hurdzan design. The front nine is a links-style course with a lot of bunkers and fescue. The back nine is a parkland design meandering through native Bucks County hardwoods. DSC_0635 Lucky Bob Hancock took low gross with an 82 while Kevin Ryan took low net (Callaway system), much to the shock of everyone! This was followed by a gastronomic treat from the Jericho kitchens topped off with a bananas Foster dessert to rival Brennan’s in New Orleans. photo-100 The following day, a smaller team attacked Torresdale-Frankfurt Country Club designed by the legendary Donald Ross. Ross designed Aronimik Golf Club in Newtown Square, Penn., as well as Pinehurst No. 1 and No. 2. He is the most respected course designer, and Philadelphia is lucky to have several Ross courses. Ross sculpted his design with minimal impact on the natural terrain. The Union League took over this financially strapped club and is breathing new life into the course with an $8.5 million fund to gut the clubhouse, save the 1922 locker room and add course improvements. It will surely be one of the best courses and clubs in the Philadelphia area. — Fran Gallagher, publisher and CEO

The Bishop’s Lodge’s Bunkhouse: A Rustic, Historic Getaway

Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a small town that’s big on historic landmarks, buildings, parks and Western lore. Many of its most fascinating structures also happen to be hotels, including Bishop’s Lodge, which extends the city’s specific charms from the streets into the public areas and private suites and rooms. While most of the properties within historic buildings are upscale, Bishop’s Lodge is now a member of Auberge Resorts Collection thanks to a painstaking restoration, luxury appointments, commitment to personal service and wide range of exclusive activities.
