Earlier this month, a few friends and I decided to take advantage of Labor Day weekend and venture to New York City. Of course, this wasn’t the only reason we traveled to the Big Apple; the real reason was because Oasis, one of my favorite bands, had reunited and was on an international tour, playing two nights at MetLife Stadium, just outside of the city in New Jersey.

And for those who may not be familiar with the name of the band, I’m sure you’ve heard of songs like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger.” These are some of their greatest hits, of course, and while I love some of their most popular songs, I got the chance to hear them sing my absolute favorites live, as well.

My friend (who I met because he lives in the same apartment complex as me) is also a huge Oasis fan, so we got tickets and asked others if they wanted to make a trip of it. Fast forward to Labor Day weekend, and four of us enjoyed three nights in Manhattan.

While I plan to share other aspects of the trip in future blogs, this one is about the Oasis concert. In short, it was spectacular. We got tickets on the floor, so we got to stand and dance and sing all night long. The two Gallagher brothers came out on stage to a sold-out stadium of cheering fans, making a display of hugging to symbolize their repaired relationship. They then went into songs like “Slide Away,” “Morning Glory,” “Supersonic” and “Whatever.”

I truly did not want the night to end, but when it did, upon their last song, fireworks shot up into the sky from behind the stage and screens, sending the band off as they ventured to Los Angeles next to continue their tour.

Oasis kicked off the tour in the United Kingdom and Ireland and will return to London with a few more concerts before continuing on to South Korea, Japan, Australia and South America.

On another note, it was my first time in MetLife Stadium, and the only other NFL stadium I’ve had to compare it to is EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
