Dengue fever has been reported at the Kenya coast, with at least 15 people coming down with what has been called “break-bone fever.” Dengue is very painful, and there is really no way to prevent it except through the use of strong insect repellents, specifically those containing a high percentage of DEET (N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide). Dengue is spread from mosquito bites, so the only solution is to “DEET up” and avoid the little buggers.
A few years ago, a GT employee traveled to Costa Rica; and upon returning after their fantastic trip, her husband became very ill. He was so sick he was hospitalized, and you got it: He had dengue fever. After beating dengue, he was 40 pounds lighter.
