We’re making the best of our weekends with daytrips. Just a three-hour drive north and we found ourselves in San Luis Obispo: a beautiful little town, home to Cal Poly SLO, the famous bubble gum alley and Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa.

We took off in the morning and enjoyed the scenic drive up the coast on a perfectly sunny California day and drove through Ventura, Montecito and Santa Barbara until we made it to SLO. Upon arrival we hopped on Google Maps to find ourselves some good local coffee. This search took us to Scout Coffee. We knew we found ourselves in a college town as we walked up and saw a group of mountain bikers out front, someone working on their laptop and a professor-looking man at another table. I have to say this took me back to my UCSB days, but better because I wasn’t broke!

After coffee we made our way downtown to see the famous Bubble Gum Alley. I had heard about this for years, and finally I can say I have walked through that sticky, icky alley. I must say I was glad I was wearing a mask! Make sure not to touch those walls, too.

The downtown area is quite cute. You’ll find an array of shops, like a pet store where we found our pup a cool new leash. We also found a retro shop with a barbershop inside it. We definitely spent some extra time in there.
