This past weekend I visited the new exhibit Creating Camelot: The Kennedy Photography of Jacques Lowe in Philadelphia’s National Constitution Center, showcasing more than 70 personal photographs of President John F. Kennedy, his wife Jacqueline and their children. Jacques Lowe was the family’s photographer from the late 1950s into the early years of JFK’s presidency. Lowe had great access to his personal and private life and was able to take thousands of photos highlighting all aspects of JFK’s time as president. As a fan of photography, I loved how the photos were a mixture of candid and staged shots. I particularly enjoyed the candid photos of Jackie that highlighted her amazing fashion sense. Because these photos were taken more than 50 years ago, damage and issues with the original quality of the photographs exist. A film about the process of cleaning up the original prints plays in the exhibit, showing the before and after versions and how they could digitally enhance and fix any scratches or blurriness in the old photographs. There is also a touch screen allowing visitors to look through many of Jacques Lowe’s contact sheets, featuring his editing marks and images he circled and selected to use for newspaper and magazine articles. Next to every image is a caption with the date and where the photograph was taken, as well as additional facts. In one of the staged photos of JFK, Jacqueline and baby daughter Caroline, the caption noted JFK was not fond of having his photograph taken and was very irritated Mr. Lowe was there to take their pictures, but Jackie insisted Jacques come to photograph the family. It is a small but enjoyable exhibit I definitely recommend checking out! Developed by Newseum, based in Washington, D.C., Creating Camelot is running in the Philadelphia through Sept. 7. — Olivia Falcione, account manager

Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a small town that’s big on historic landmarks, buildings, parks and Western lore. Many of its most fascinating structures also happen to be hotels, including Bishop’s Lodge, which extends the city’s specific charms from the streets into the public areas and private suites and rooms. While most of the properties within historic buildings are upscale, Bishop’s Lodge is now a member of Auberge Resorts Collection thanks to a painstaking restoration, luxury appointments, commitment to personal service and wide range of exclusive activities.
