Last week, publisher Fran Gallagher and I made a trip into Chicago to visit some of our partners and clients, checking in and recapping the first half of the year. It wouldn’t be a complete trip if I didn’t stay at my favorite hotel to date, The Peninsula Chicago.
As I write this blog, I wonder how many times that I’ve written about this specific property — although it is always worth the post, because each time they exceed my expectations and make each stay that much more personal and delightful.
Upon arrival I was greeted as usual by the lovely front desk staff, passing by some of the art exhibit that was currently being displayed at the property. I would later learn that this collection is called A Journey and was curated by Dara Pizzuti. It showcases 30 works that represent her parents’ journey of art collecting all over the world. I loved learning that Dara’s father preferred to meet the artist and the artist’s family whenever he would acquire art from a living artist, eager to learn about their lifestyle and culture.
The art did not stop in the lobby or on the main floor; in fact, it was when I was unpacking my suitcase that I noticed the television screen was a personalized screensaver that had my name and photo on it!
Of course, I had to stop by Z Bar to meet Susan and Justin from The Peninsula for a glass of their famous Sancerre wine. From there, Fran and I were joined for dinner at Shanghai Terrace by Susan as well as Lindsay and Jimmy, who were in town filming for Access Hollywood. When it came to ordering, we actually requested that the chef make whatever he wanted for the table. The meal started with a beautiful dim sum sampler and included Peking duck and more!
While it was just a quick one-night trip, I always enjoy myself and look forward to the next stay. Luckily, I have plans to be back sooner rather than later. Cheers!

These days, vast stretches of summer farmland east and west of the festival site are still transformed each summer into a cultural wonderland, offering bazaars, arts and crafts, music and educational events, and camping sites, providing festival-goers with a peaceful escape into nature and allowing visitors today to experience the same landscape that welcomed 450,000 people during the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival event.
