Amtrak partnered with Delivering Good and donated 119,596 individual items to local organizations. Items like bedding, towels and linens will go to those in need.

Delivering Good works to create a more equitable world for people facing economic, medical, social and environmental challenges by providing them with useful items to help overcome adversity and achieve their full potential. Donations came from Seattle, Oakland, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Miami, allowing the Amtrak-Delivering Goods partnership to make a national impact.

“For those facing poverty, homelessness, job loss and more, the gift of new, essential products can provide hope, dignity and self-esteem,” said Merrie Keller, director of product procurement, Delivering Good. “As we aim to create a world of greater and more sustainable equality and opportunity for all who live in it, we would like to thank Amtrak for helping those in need to find a better tomorrow.”

Amtrak recently upgraded its private room experience with new bedding, pillows, towels and linens for overnight trains. In 2018, 1.5 million tons of towels, sheets and pillowcases were generated, with only 15.8 percent recycled. Following the upgrade, Amtrak’s aim was to divert waste from landfills, instead making them available to people in need.
