Set in the shadow of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain above an ancient village, the UNESCO-protected site of Lijiang in Yunnan Province is the setting for Amandayan, the newest addition to the collection of luxurious, intimate escapes by Aman Resorts. The resort’s stunning architecture reflects the aesthetics of the region’s Nakhi people, with Yunnan pine from Shangri-La, Dongba woodcarvings, stone floors and local fabrics and materials.

Hiking and horseback riding trails lead through Tiger Leaping Gorge and birdwatching meadows. Visit in August or September (depending on the annual Lunar month) and enjoy the three-day Huoba Festival, also known as the Fire Torch Festival.
