Apparently the excitement of travel outweighs the hassle of the airport: People in airports are generally pretty happy.

Data collected by HappyorNot, the company responsible for the mood-rating kiosks found at 160 airports in 36 countries, proves people are likely to push the button for “delighted” or “very happy” rather than “happy,” “sad” or “don’t even ask,” the other options.

HappyorNot said 62 percent of travelers push the happiest button, while 17 percent choose “happy,” 7 percent choose “sad” and “14 percent choose the saddest option.

“The small hours on the weekend are the worst time to travel, while mornings mid-week are consistently the happiest times,” said Heikki Väänänen, CEO, HappyorNot.

“Specifically, 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. are the happiest times to travel, while 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. the unhappiest (perhaps unsurprisingly). Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are the most pleasant days to travel; Sunday and Saturday the least,” he added.

Travelers are happiest at security checkpoints, while saddest at baggage claim in the early morning hours.

Väänänen said the value of the ratings is twofold: “Providing airports with extensive and useful data while also making travellers feel empowered and valued.”
