Branson, Mo., is called a “family-friendly Las Vegas” for its abundance of kid-approved attractions and activities. The city, nestled in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, boasts old-time charm, the Silver Dollar City amusement park, shops, theaters, restaurants and more. It’s also located less than an hour from Springfield if you’re looking for a more modern urban experience.

Nothing beats quality outdoor time. With dramatic mountain vistas, waterfalls, pristine lakes, hot springs and countless hiking trails of all experience levels, Yellowstone National Park is a haven for families. There are several great accommodation options within the park, including Canyon Village, Lake Yellowstone and the historic Old Faithful Inn, built in 1904.

Give your kids a taste of U.S. history in Washington, D.C., especially beautiful this time of year with cherry blossom trees abloom. With countless history, science and art museums, famous monuments, open green spaces, great restaurants and festivals, you could easily spend a week seeing the sights and taking in all the city has to offer.

With beautiful beaches, state parks, historic shipwreck diving sites and plenty of food- and activity-filled piers and boardwalks, North Carolina’s Outer Banks is a great option for a week-long getaway — plus, there are plenty of flight options into Norfolk (ORF) or Raleigh Durham (RDU), from both of which the destination is easily accessible via scenic drive.

Don’t let the nickname deter you: The Windy City is a lovely destination to visit with family, offering something unique each season. Take a river cruise, view the city from the Willis Tower Skydeck Chicago, let the kids run free at Navy Pier and, at the end of the day, treat the family to some classic deep-dish pizza. Some other great family-friendly activities include The Lincoln Park Zoo, Shedd Aquarium and Alder Planetarium.

While Mardi Gras may not be the ideal time to shuffle through the streets with children, New Orleans is a great family destination, with rich history, lively culture, incredible food and endless entertainment. Grab a warm beignet before strolling along the Mississippi River to the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and Butterfly Garden, ride the St. Charles streetcar to the Audubon Zoo and enjoy live music from a street-side café.
