Incheon International Airport opened Terminal 2 Jan. 18, just in time for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. The date was set in advance to allow airport staff to become accustomed to the new terminal ahead of athlete arrivals.
The 7.4-million-square-foot Terminal 2 offers extensive amenities across five stories to serve the projected 18 million passengers per year. Beyond check-in, customs, immigration and boarding gates found in Terminal 1, Terminal 2 offers an all-inclusive transportation center (including trains into Seoul and bus access). Currently, four airlines are working out of Terminal 2 — Korean Air, Delta Air Lines, Air France and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
Smart technology is highly featured in the new terminal, from information robots to a new arrivals and departures flight information display system. The design features plenty of natural light and original art, with natural greenery and photovoltaic roof panels to cut down on heating and ventilation costs. Unique experiences are provided for travelers, including sports facilities, gaming areas, a cafe observatory, sleep boxes and more.
A second stage of the terminal is slated for a 2025 completion.
