Mexico City

I try to make it to Mexico City at least twice a year to see clients and get my fix of amazing food. A few weeks ago I did just that on a 48-hour trip.

Mexico City is a huge metropolis with lots of neighborhoods and zones to stay in. This trip I stayed at the Grand Fiesta Americana Chapultepec, right in the center of the Polanco and major business centers. Right off Reforma, the business hotel gives you all the necessities (try the breakfast buffet or outstanding traditional tortilla soup!), with views of Chapultepec Castle and just across the street from museums.

I arrived in the afternoon on a cool, sunny Sunday and had a chance to walk through the Bosque de Chapultepec, filled with families, food stands and locals selling wares. The park is filled with unique statues and modern art that stretches from one end to the other. However, if you are looking for a longer trek, hike up to Castle de Chapultepec for a unique experience and views. I am planning this for my next trip.

At 8 p.m., head over to Condesa or Polanco for a vast array of cuisine and nightlife. I recommend trying Azul in Condesa, with its pretty courtyard. If you are looking for more casual dining, 50 Friends Pizzas in Polanco has handmade pizzas with fresh toppings and a great selection of wines to pair.

The heart of Mexico has always captured my interest, and I look forward to returning soon. Any suggestions for restaurants or must-see events?

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
