With the recent legalization of recreational marijuana in Oregon, Washington, Colorado and Alaska, it was a matter of time before pot-based tourism found its footing.

Now there’s a new company launching called TravelTHC, and it’s basically room sharing for marijuana users, helping travelers identify weed-friendly accommodations. It’s based in Colorado and operating there and in parts of Washington for now, but will likely add properties in Alaska soon.

““The idea came about as I was talking with a group of friends in a pub in Denver. Recreational marijuana had only recently been legalized in the state, but the rules precluded people from smoking in public or in most hotels. There was an obvious gap of 420-friendly places for people to stay and smoke — so we filled the gap,” said Greg Drinkwater, co-founder, TravelTHC.

Travelers who smoke weed at their hotels or vacation rentals without the owner’s permission are technically breaking the law. TravelTHC’s property listings allow pot smokers to partake legally. Many of the properties are firmly in the upscale category, with amenities like Jacuzzis and mountain views.
