The third-largest city in the world, Shanghai has transformed into one of the world’s most important centers for business, finance, science, culture and transportation. In fact, Shanghai is home to the first free trade zone in Mainland China. The city sits on the southern estuary of the Yangtze River, and the Huangpu River flows right through the 26-million-strong city. Art Deco- and Shikumen-style buildings, museums, skyscrapers, gardens, temples and food markets fill the lively, Eastern Chinese city.
GETTING THERE & AROUND
The main international airport serving Shanghai, Shanghai Pudong International Airport lies about 20 miles east of city center. The airport serves many major international airlines across North America and Europe. Accessible via highway, train and metro, the airport offers various ways to reach city center. The Maglev train links the airport to Longyang Metro Station where transfers to lines 2, 7, 16 and 18 are available. These trains operate every 15 minutes, and all cars come with space and racks for luggage. Shanghai Metro Line 2 connects the airport to Longyang Road, People’s Square and Lujiazui. Within the city, an extensive public transportation network of metros, ferries, buses and taxis is available, all accessible via a Shanghai Public Transport Card.
