One of my favorite activities in my town is Collingswood Farmers Market. Held on Saturday mornings May–November, the market hosts a wide variety of vendors from the surrounding area.

Many farms represented at the market are there weekly and offer the best produce of the season. I look forward to strawberries and asparagus in the spring, peaches and corn in the summer, and apples and squash in the fall. In addition to fresh produce, the non-farm food vendors offer unique goods. We have several favorites: Milk Jawn for ice cream, Fishtown Pickle Project for pickles, Kismet Bagels for bagels and cream cheese, and Aaji’s for tomato lonsa.

Beyond the edible goods, my husband and I like to peruse the plant selection. Admittedly, I don’t have a green thumb, though I do enjoy tending to a manageable assortment of plants, flowers and herbs we keep on our porch. This year we purchased mint, basil, oregano and thyme from the market. It’s a great way to make our market purchases last longer and incorporate fresh herbs in more meals. I also enjoy admiring the plants from the comfort of my porch.
