Next year is already slated to be a big year for some airports across the country, with new lounges, including one receiving its first-ever lounge, in the works. Soon, travelers at Chicago’s Midway International Airport will have access to The Club MDW, the airport’s first lounge in its 95-year history.

The brand-new lounge will feature food and beverage offerings, workstations and comfortable seating spread across 3,000 square feet. Located beside Terminals A and B, the lounge will be available to travelers who purchase a day pass or members of the Priority Pass network. Slated to begin construction in spring 2024, the lounge plans to open fall 2024.

Another U.S. airport expecting a new lounge is Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. A new Delta Sky Club comes to the airport, marking Delta Air Lines’ first lounge in this North Carolina airport.

Coinciding with the airport’s expansion, the new Delta Sky Club expects to open fall 2024. The opening accompanies the renovations of Concourse A which, upon completion, sees Delta with 10 new gates.

Over on the West Coast, Portland International Airport welcomes an Escape Lounge in 2024, as well. Travelers with the Platinum Card from American Express can access Escape Lounges across the country.

The 10,700-square-foot lounge will sit on the mezzanine level of Concourse D, located near the airport’s Delta Sky Club. The lounge marks the 16th U.S. location for Escape Lounges.

This year was also a big one for airport lounges, with many opening up across the country as more and more travelers seek access to the luxuries and comforts expected of these spaces. This past summer, San Francisco International Airport debuted its first Maple Leaf Lounge from Air Canada, featuring the airport’s first outdoor terrace.

In late summer, Boston Logan International Airport welcomed its third Delta Sky Club, located in Terminal A. A sprawling 21,000 square feet, the lounge can hold up to 400 guests and boasts sweeping views of Boston Harbor and the city skyline.

Newark Liberty International Airport also received a new lounge, a United Club in Concourse C. The club officially opened Oct. 11 and features private booths, couches, a signature bar and more across 18,000 square feet.

Which lounge are you most excited to visit in 2024? Which lounge is your favorite? Do you have a preferred airline or card lounge you gravitate toward? What is your favorite part about an airline lounge? What do you think could be improved? Tell us your thoughts. Email us at letters@globaltravelerusa.com. Hotel Nice Beau Rivage Review

In the city Henri Matisse once called home — and where Musée Matisse holds his largest collection — Hotel Beau Rivage has a special connection with the artist, who first visited the hotel in 1916 and painted famous sea views from his room 89 in 1917. Today, framed Matisse prints — many brightly colored cut-out collages from the artist’s JAZZ collection — decorate its walls. Hotel guests also benefit from a partnership with the museum.
