Christchurch Botanic Gardens was founded in 1863. Te Māra Huaota o Waipapa is the Māori name for the gardens, which translates as Botanical Gardens of Waipapa. Admission is free. Hours vary by season.

Godley Head Walk
For those interested in hiking, visit Godley Head Loop Trail. The hike is about 6 miles long and passes along the coastline through historical WWII sites including old military buildings and tunnels. The loop begins at Taylor’s Mistake beach car park.
New Regent Street
Explore the many shops, restaurants, entertainment options and cultural attractions on New Regent Street. The pedestrian mall originally opened in 1932 and has since undergone rebuilds due to earthquakes.
