The Seoul Tourism Organization participated in IMEX, the world’s largest MICE exhibition, in Frankfurt, Germany, May 29–June 2. IMEX celebrated its 200^th anniversary this year.

“We expect our participation in this year’s IMEX exhibition will be a meaningful rebooting of Seoul’s standing as a complete MICE venue,” said Park Jin Hyeok, director, Seoul Convention Bureau. “With experienced and knowledgeable Seoul MICE Alliance members, we will continue our overseas marketing to enhance its position as the best MICE city in the world.”

Seoul used the IMEX opportunity to create fun, engaging activities from popular highlights of its culture, like Squid Game, K-Pop and chimaek.

K-Pop and Hallyu Culture

Hallyu represents how the K-Wave is written in Korean. As K-contents increase in popularity worldwide, various attractions and programs in Seoul allow tourists to enjoy these elements of the culture. MICE-goers can choose from K-Pop Dance Group classes, a K-Pop star-themed tour and K-Pop star goods stores online or on site.

Squid Game and Dalgona Carving

Fans of the Netflix hit Squid Game can traverse around Seoul to find filming locations. The show also made the Dalgona shape carving game more popular. Dalgona is a plate-looking sugar candy, one of the most popular and famous street foods in Myeong-dong. In the game, players must carve shapes from the Korean honeycomb cookie.

Chimaek

Chi- means chicken, and -maek, beer. Overall, this represents some of the all-time favorite Korean foods, like bibimbap or Korean BBQ. Be sure to try yangnyeom chicken, a rich combination of sweet, sour and salty. Restaurants all over, particularly in the beautiful Hangang River area, allow visitors to enjoy chimaek.
