Grand Socco is a bustling square separating the newer parts of the city from the old medina. Cafés, restaurants, a mosque, shops and outdoor benches surround the square. Tangier’s history could perhaps be no better shown than at the Phoenician Tombs. Overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar, this necropolis holds about 100 tombs, with more than half carved into the rock, dating from 1,400 B.C.E. Other artifacts from the time period were also found, now on display at Kasbah Museum.
