Platinum Spas recently released a report on the best states for self-care. The ranking of all 50 states was based on comparison of nine key factors, including availability of wellness retreats, fitness facilities and green spaces.

California tops the list. The state ranked highest for self-care search volume, as well as number of health clubs, hiking trails and spas. Florida ranked second, due in part to its high number of health clubs, spas and wellness retreats. New York rounds out the top three with the highest number of parks and green spaces of all the states. It also ranked high for number of psychologists.

Psychologist Dr. Rebekah Wanic offered additional insight into the importance of self-care on overall wellbeing, “Disconnecting from daily stressors is crucial for better mental health. Just like our muscles need rest, our psychological functioning also requires recovery. Taking time away from the pressures of daily life can stave off burnout, reduce anxiety, and refocus attention on what truly matters, helping us realign our behaviors with our goals,” said Dr. Wanic.
