A Few Days in Denver

Jul 22, 2016

This year’s Global Business Travel Association convention took the GT team to Denver.

As a good friend from college lives in nearby Colorado Springs, I took the opportunity to travel a day early and spend some time with her before the convention got going. This was my third trip to the Denver area, and I was eager to see and try a few different activities than before.

Upon arrival, my friend and I lunched at Cherry Cricket, in the Cherry Creek Mall area, offering plentiful options and outdoor seating for visitors looking to shop. Here, I tried the popular pork green chili on a burrito; I highly recommend the local staple. Dick Evans took my advice and sampled green chili on his scrambled eggs the next morning!

I also took the opportunity to go on my first Colorado hike at Palmer Park in Colorado Springs on Sunday morning. My friend’s dog, Chuck, was the perfect guide. Later that same day, after setting up the booth, Dick, Olivia Falcione and I celebrated National Ice Cream Day at 5280 in Denver’s 16th Street Mall area. It was the perfect sweet treat on a hot day. GBTA really kicked off Sunday night with a welcome party at Mile High Stadium, where the GT staff celebrated like Super Bowl champions.

The rest of our days were filled with the all-important business of travel, and amid meetings, we checked out the newest business-class offerings from airlines, like United’s Polaris, and heard from guest speakers Julia Louis Dreyfuss and Peyton Manning. The rest of 2016 and all of 2017 look to be exciting years in the world of travel. Wednesday morning, it was time to depart, and Dick, Holly Riddle, Jeff Sohinki and I decided to try Denver’s new light rail train from Union Station, two blocks from our hotel, to the airport.

The 37-minute trip for $9 couldn’t have been easier — as we walked up, a train was readying to depart. The trip was swift, the trains were clean and not overly crowded and we avoided all potential city traffic. I’ll definitely use the service next time I return. Today, I jet off to Belgium; be sure to check my next blog for more on that trip.
