Love snorkeling? Take it to the next level at Tanzania’s Manta Resort. Located on the Zanzibari island of Pemba, Manta Resort offers a unique view from a guestroom with a window located a bit more than three yards below the surface of the Indian Ocean.
Guests access the underwater-view guestroom via a boat transfer from the main resort. The underwater window offers an up-close-and-personal look at the undersea world by night – and by day, illuminated by streaming sunlight.
Swedish designer Mikael Genberg created the room. Genberg experimented with the first underwater room on a lake near Stockholm in 2000. While similar rooms exist in other parts of the world including Florida and the Maldives, the Manta Resort is the first place on the African continent to debut the concept.
