From July 31–Aug. 23, the surf’s up at Munich International Airport where the world’s largest artificial standing wave will roll through the airport’s MAC Forum event space. The wave is open daily from 10 a.m.–8:15 p.m., beginning with kids’ camps and expert surf coaching for children from 10 a.m.–2 p.m., followed by time for beginning and experienced urban surfers to enjoy the water from 3–8:15 p.m.
Groups of 10 surfers at a time will take to the wave for 45-minute slots. Surf boards, required equipment and surf time are provided free of charge. Registration for surfing slots begins on July 29. The wave’s summer airport residency culminates with the European Championship in Stationary Wave Riding Aug. 14–16. Part of the celebrations for the fifth anniversary of Surf & Style, the competition will pit Munich’s urban surfers against international pros in river surfing. Admission is free.
