As you plan your route, consider these activity options:
Take a CAMP CASS workshop at CASS Winery, located in Paso Robles. Choices include delving into the mysteries of beekeeping during A Bee’s Life experience, learning ancient olive oil pressing techniques from Mediterranean traditions, horseback riding, archery, photography classes, paint and sip classes, and sommelier and winemaking sessions.
Take part in the 100th anniversary of the construction of Hearst Castle, recently reopened. The new Julia Morgan Tour comprises part of the festivities, allowing visitors an inside peek into Morgan’s life and career through displays of her family photos, personal items and architectural drawings.
Go sky-high during a helicopter wine tasting excursion with Paso Air Tours, offering daytime aerial adventures including stops at select wineries, plus stellar views of rolling vineyards. Custom tours can be arranged or book a pre-curated tour, such as the three-hour Tasting in Style or the hour-long Wine & Waves.

The property, with 26 acres of tropical landscaping, multiple water slides and numerous dining venues, is a beautiful resort. Last month, I brought my 13-year-old grandson to the property for two days of water-sliding in balmy mid-December weather.
