ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN: After an early morning train ride from Urubamba, we arrived in the quaint town of Aguas Calientes. Friendly employees of Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel greeted us and took our bags so we didn’t have to worry about carrying them during our short walk to the property. When we arrived, the staff welcomed us with a delicious drink of green tea made from leaves grown on the property. While we enjoyed our drink, the concierge filled us in on details of the hotel’s included amenities, excursions offered on the property and more.
Afterward, we were given our keys and guided to our rooms to settle in before our first activity.
GUEST QUARTERS: My suite was tucked away in the lush greenery toward the less busy part of the hotel, facing the running water of the river … I felt like I was in my own little world. The outdoor patio had a little love seat perfect for sitting outdoors to soak up the surrounding sounds of the forest, wildlife and running water.
As I walked into the suite, the comfy king-sized bed sat to the left, while a giant armoire sat on the right. Next to it was the bathroom with a separate toilet area and a spacious rainfall shower. The bathroom had two containers of natural bug repellant, which came in handy during our various excursions around the property and to Machu Picchu. The room also featured a grand
fireplace which could be turned on at any time with the help of an employee. Across from the fireplace, a roomy sitting area held a comfy love seat and a small table with two chairs.
SERVICES/AMENITIES: All guests receive a welcome tea in the lobby and a welcome gift in their rooms. Guests have access to meals at the two restaurants: Dining Room & Bar and Café Inkaterra. Guests are also invited to enjoy daily tea time, buffet-style breakfast, a cocktail hour and turndown services.
I recommend taking advantage of the complimentary daily in-house excursions which include bird-watching; nature walks; an orchid trail; twilight walks; and visiting the tea house, where you will learn how the tea is made. Other excursions can be added, such as a guided trip to Machu Picchu. At the spa, guests can relax after a long day of exploring with treatments such as hot stone massages, deep tissue massages, de-stressing massages and more.
TOP TAKEAWAYS:
- I highly recommend adding the Machu Picchu guided excursion to your stay. We had a wonderful, knowledgeable guide who took his time and explained everything.
- The included, in-house excursions offer a great way to get the lay of the land and learn a lot more about the area and its native plants and wildlife.
