Visitors to China’s Coconut City in 2018 can experience all new attractions, in addition to the destination’s beautiful scenery, sunshine and sandy beaches.
The Haikou Tourism Development Commission released a list of must-see attractions, including new and recently developed sites like the Youth Courtyard in the city’s Movie Town, the MH Outlets and a water park.
Located toward the end of 1942 Street in Movie Town, the tourist district jointly built by Mission Hills and film director Feng Xiaogang, the Youth Courtyard, or Fang Hua, showcases China’s landscape during the 1970s.
“Haikou sets itself apart from other tropical destinations by offering not just its natural scenic beauty, but also special cultural experiences like Movie Town, where millions of fans can reminisce about the past while walking through classic movie settings,” said Liao Xiaoping, director, Haikou Tourism Commission.
Also recently opened is Haikou’s MH Outlet shopping centre, a haven of global and Chinese fashion.
In addition to these new attractions, the lively city of Haikou and its surrounding regions are home to geological wonders, ancient landmarks, protected nature reserves and some of the best seafood anywhere in the world.
With so much to offer, Haikou hopes to see a rise in visitors per its five-year plan to remake itself into a global tourism destination. Expanding duty-free shopping zones, improving international transport links and introducing more activities for tourists, like the MH Outlets and Fang Hua, will help achieve the five-year goal — more than 80 million tourists are expected to visit the island in 2020.
A new Diamond Cruise route launched in late December from Haikou, sailing to Ha Long Bay in Vietnam on the 700-passenger Glory Sea. Following this launch, the ship will also sail from Haikou to the Philippines beginning Jan. 21.
Several of the world’s largest airlines now offer service to Haikou, including China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Air China, Cathay Pacific, Hainan Airlines and Hong Kong Airlines.
