Marriott’s millennial-geared hotel brand, Moxy Hotels, expands its footprint in New York City, with two new properties opening by the end of the year. The first property in the city, Moxy Times Square, opened September 2017.

“These two new hotels will both have a distinct style and personality, reflective of the culturally-rich neighborhoods they are located in, giving locals and visitors alike more ways to play with us,” said Toni Stoeckl, global brand leader and vice president, distinctive select service brands, Marriott International.

The new-build Moxy Downtown opens this summer with 298 guestrooms off Broadway. The lobby features a large LED wall acting as a virtual window into the hotel’s third-floor social space, designed as a neighborhood hangout spot with work spaces, games and entertainment. The food and beverage options promise craft cocktails, elevated bar food and unique coffee options. Guestrooms provide floor-to-ceiling windows and tech amenities.

The Moxy Chelsea opens next with 349 guestrooms. The decor combines the Flower District’s botanical features with Italian romance. Common spaces include a flower shop, trattoria, pasticceria, café, bar, meeting studios, a co-working lounge, a conservatory and a rooftop bar. The latter, with its retractable windows, offers views of the Empire State Building.

Each property provides mobile check-in and check-out, 24/7 food and beverage offerings and complimentary WiFi.

“Moxy is designed to facilitate authentic experiences and touchpoints for the modern traveler, which means no two hotels are alike — they take on the personality and vibe of their surrounding neighborhoods,” added Stoeckl. “New York City encapsulates everything Moxy is about, and we’re really excited now to be able to offer a Moxy in the city for whatever type of experience Moxy’s fun-hunting travelers are looking for.”

Choose Your Own Island Vibe in French Polynesia

“We are on small, tiny rocks, isolated in the middle of the largest ocean.” On a nature tour on the atoll of Tetiaroa, my naturalist guide, Thierry Sommers, thus reminded me of the oceanic remoteness of our location in the South Pacific. I was staying at The Brando, a luxurious private island resort that sits a mere 30-minute flight from the main island of Tahiti but still feels gloriously far away from regular civilization.
