JetBlue and Random House Children’s Books are calling on people to vote online to bring 100,000 books to local children in need with its Soar with Reading program.
To encourage children’s imaginations to take flight through reading, JetBlue launched the Soar with Reading program in 2011. Since its creation, JetBlue and its partners have donated more than $1.25 million worth of books to children in need. This year, the carrier partnered with Random House Children’s Books and Magic Tree House author Mary Pope Osborne to encourage children to share the magic of reading.
Through Aug. 31, the program features the opportunity to decide which of the following five locations will receive 100,000 books next summer: Fort Lauderdale, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York or Houston. Voting takes one click and can be completed on the Soar with Reading website.
This summer, the carrier designed and placed vending machines dispensing brand-new, free books in underserved locations () across the country. Kids ages 0–14 are able to visit the locations to take as many books as they’re interested in, with no strings attached.
Additionally, in support of the vending machine program, select communities have the opportunity to opt-in to a SMS campaign providing age-appropriate reading tips, updates on vending machine book selections and information about special guest readers appearing at the machines.
