Although not the original national capital, Brasilia now serves as the capital city of Brazil. The city was built from 1956 to 1960 in order to move the capital from Rio de Janeiro to a more central location. Brasilia is now known for its visionary urban planning and stunning futuristic architecture. Some say it feels more like a living open-air museum than a city.

GETTING THERE & AROUND
Visitors can fly into Brasilia-Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport, the only airport serving the area. Connect to the city via public bus or Ônibus Executivo “executive” bus service offering comfortable seats, air-conditioning and ample luggage space. Unfortunately, the city is not very walkable, as it was built for automobiles; travelers are encouraged to either rent a car or use ride-sharing apps such as Uber and 99. The city also features public transport like the metro and bus; download the Moovit app for assistance with public transportation.

The May–September dry season typically means beautiful blue skies.
