In Vadodara in the state of Gujarat, Laxmi Vilas Palace is actually a collection of stunningly embellished palaces covering more than 700 acres, with ornate spaces including the Durbar Hall with its Venetian mosaic tile floor, stained glass windows and Rajas Throne.
The Thirumalai Nayak Palace, built in 1636 by King Thirumalai Nayak in the city of Madurai, Tamil Nadu is surrounded by rich legends that include the story of a magical tank filled with golden lilies that had the power to judge the merit of poems and stories. The building itself is a glorious blend of Islamic and Dravidian architecture, with a stunning courtyard and interior royal residence.
Ethereal in appearance, the alabaster white Palace of Ujjayanta in Agartala overlooks a sparkling lake and lush gardens. Within, the extensive Tripura Government Museum houses cultural and lifestyle exhibitions, arts and utility crafts. Equally impressive, the Marble Palace in west Bengal is home to a valuable collection of art, curios and antiques, along with splendid gardens. The 19th-century mansion is constructed of marble walls and floors, and was built in 1835 in neoclassical style with fluted Corinthian pillars and wide verandas with intricate fretwork.
