On March 8, 1965, approximately 3,500 Marines landed at Red Beach in Da Nang, marking the arrival of the first U.S. ground combat unit in Vietnam. Three years later the city was a focal point in the Tet Offensive, where North Vietnamese soldiers launched large ground attacks against American forces.
After the Vietnam War ended in 1975, it took two decades before the United States and Vietnam became business and trading
partners and began developing a nascent tourism industry that now flourishes with American business and leisure travelers.

As Vietnam modernized its infrastructure and economy, the country’s three most popular cities — Hanoi (the capital city), Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) and Da Nang — began attracting many American tourists and business travelers. In November 2024 Vietnam hosted 69,237 arrivals from the United States, which increased to 73,000 in December and to 92,000 American visitors in January 2025. Visitors to Vietnam have also increased from countries in Europe, South America and other Southeast Asia nations.
Da Nang’s tourism industry has benefited from the Vietnamese government’s decision to upgrade the city’s restaurants, hotels,
streetscapes, cultural venues and outdoor sporting facilities, especially its many beautifully designed golf courses. Located along Vietnam’s central coastline, Da Nang loves to show off its many accessible beaches; well-managed, American-style resorts; and energetic and friendly residents.

While many visitors travel to Da Nang for attractions such as My Khe Beach or the Marble Mountains, five limestone peaks just 4 miles from the Hải Chau District, the city’s busy business center offers excellent restaurants, cafés and unique shops, all close to the beaches. Other visitors rent cars and create their own adventures, perhaps driving 15–20 minutes south along the well-paved, four-lane coastal road to the fascinating old city of Hội An, where narrow lanes accommodate street vendors selling everything
from fresh fruit and vegetables to traditional Vietnamese clothing. Historic Hội An is a UNESCO World Heritage town.
Although most of Da Nang’s golf clubs tend to be located outside city limits, the new Fusion Resort & Villas Da Nang, opened this year, lies in the popular seaside An Thuong neighborhood, within city limits. The property, a wellness-inspired hotel brand, offers sweeping views overlooking Non Nuoc Beach.
The Fusion Resort offers 85 upscale private villas and 157 hotel suites, giving guests a true sense of the extent to which Da Nang and Vietnam have evolved when it comes to resort development. In the hotel tower, the property offers a one-of-a-kind “resort in the sky” experience, with 29 of the guestrooms featuring private pools in the sky; a plush Maia Spa and fitness center; and four dining venues, offering traditional Vietnamese cuisine as well as numerous international menus.
