Destinations are recovering from the pandemic, and, as such, we see a rise in travel. Recent trends show travelers look for an experience that allows them to connect deeper to a destination, support sustainability and help positively impact the local community. Grenada Tourism Authority is working hard to deliver this trend, as well as continue its sustainability with its new Voluntourism Program.
Travelers can participate in voluntourism opportunities year-round. Visitors can choose from a variety of types such as agriculture, environment, education and health. Check out the programs offered in Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique:
Agriculture
- Annandale Community Project: The Annandale Community Garden is located at Annandale Waterfall. Members of the community can come tend to the garden and take produce parcels at no cost. This process helps encourage the community to eat healthier foods they normally wouldn’t be able to afford. The garden teaches the community how to plant and tend to the garden, as well as preparing meals using the produce in the gardens. The Annandale Community Project always looks for volunteers to help in the garden and teach nearby school children about the importance of eating what you grow.
- Myristic Mountain: Myristic Mountain offers some of Grenada’s most gorgeous animals and flowers, hiking trails, farmlands, horseback riding and organic meal options. With all these offerings, the team welcomes any volunteers looking to help farm the crops, plant more flowers and tend the horses.
Environment
- Beach & Reef Cleanups: The beaches of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique are stunning, but often see improperly discarded waste threatening its sea life and coral reefs. To help maintain the cleanliness of the beach, volunteers are needed to help pick up trash and other waste as well as help the dive shops.
- Grand Anse Artificial Reef Project: Grenada’s Dive Community has seen firsthand the damage to the land done by global warming. To help with the disappearance of the reefs and sea life, the Dive Community places artificial reefs throughout the ocean. These artificial reefs need help being maintained. Volunteers can help with underwater cleanup, fish counts, ID tags and more.
Health
- Medical Elective in Grenada: Through this program, nurses, junior doctors and medical professionals can lend their expertise to medical services in the tri-island. Doctors are needed to teach local doctors different practices to be used in crisis, as well as usage of basic types of equipment.
- Grand Down Syndrome Association: This association hosts several annual events that need volunteers to ensure success. The group celebrates World Down Syndrome Day in March with activities including funky sock day to help raise awareness and funds for the local community. In August, Fun Day includes yoga, face painting, sports and horseback riding.

May 8, 2024The Peninsula Bangkok Resort Review
Bangkok is one of the world’s most exciting cities, and we — me and my wife — have front-row seats. From the wood-paneled living room of our 16th-floor deluxe suite in The Peninsula, we look out on a panoramic sweep of the Chao Phraya River, one of the city’s most important routes. Day and night the river jostles with ferries, cruise boats, barges, speedboats and distinctive long-tail boats. We view it all in air-conditioned comfort.

May 6, 2024Explore Portugal on a Wine Tasting Tour with a Touch of History
All it takes is one glance at the grounds of Quinta Dona Maria, which includes a grand villa and surrounding gardens, to realize wine tasting in Portugal comes with a good dose of history. The vineyard is located in Estremoz, just northeast of the first-century Roman ruins found in Evora. In 1718 King João V built this estate for his lover, Dona Maria. When she died, the current owner’s ancestors purchased the land and have been making wine ever since. Taste the wine, which is terrific, especially the full-bodied red Dona Maria Grand Reserve. Then venture inside a building that stores large amphora vases, including one dating back to the 1200s.
