Business Travelers Seek Health and Fitness Programs

A global survey proves business travelers want hotel conferences and meetings to stop neglecting attendee health and fitness. A global survey from Hilton show half of attendees are dissatisfied with their inability to stay on track with diet and exercise goals while traveling for business meetings, saying the experience is simply not up to par with their daily routine. The lack of healthy menu options and fitness breaks results in sluggishness, with one-third admitting they tend to fall asleep or experience drowsiness around 2 p.m. Many feel the afternoon energy loss is easily combatable, with 90 percent saying even a small walk or stretch session would help. Another 70 percent of U.S. respondents said healthy menu options would increase their willingness to participate in meetings and pay attention. Overall, business travelers are demanding changes that ultimately make them more productive, satisfied and engaged. In response, Hilton is expanding its Meet with Purpose program to hotel meetings, conferences and business events in Europe and the United Arab Emirates, making way for nutritious meals, exercise breaks and sustainable elements. Currently, more than 40 Hilton properties in the United States offer these options. Offerings include itineraries with pre-set fitness breaks, featuring exercises anyone can do, such as beginners’ yoga, simple stretches, breathing techniques and meditation sessions. Menus include yogurt and granola breakfasts; lunches with lean proteins and veggies; and snacks of seasonal, local fruits and whole-grain baked goods. “It’s been incredible to see so many meeting and event professionals truly wow their attendees by incorporating healthier food options and physical fitness breaks directly into their agenda — in a way that is smartly packaged and ready to implement. Our Meet with Purpose initiative not only makes the planner’s job much easier, it also delights the attendee during the experience itself. Every event is Instagram-worthy. Every time!” said Toni Zoblotsky, director of B2B marketing, Hilton. The survey was conducted with more than 3,000 respondents from the United States, United Kingdom and Germany, who are all full or part-time employees, ages 18–64, who have attended at least one business hotel conference or meeting in the last year. Do you feel unable to keep up with your diet and fitness habits when traveling for business? Do you feel hotel meetings with a focus on health and fitness would increase your productivity and satisfaction? Email us and let us know. Please include your full name and location with your email.
