In a recent blog I wrote about a local pizza place transformed into the fictional Little Nero’s Pizza from Home Alone. Remembering parts of the movie were filmed just north of Chicago, I went searching for a few of the famous locations.

My first stop was the McCallister house. The home used for the exterior shots where Kevin and his family lived is located in Winnetka, about 20 minutes north of Chicago. Although it is a beautiful home, I wonder why it was selected instead of any of the other nice homes in that area.

Next, I drove to the pharmacy where Kevin shopped for a toothbrush. It is now an ice cream shop. Unfortunately, because I planned poorly, it was closed, depriving me of sampling their offerings (strictly in the name of thorough reporting).

My last stop: Trinity United Methodist Church in Wilmette. Again, this was only used for an exterior shot.

There is one other Home Alone location I should mention, although I need not feel the need to actually go there for a picture. The McCallister family travels through O’Hare International Airport, located just west of Chicago. On a related note, O’Hare was voted Best Airport in North America for two consecutive decades by Global Traveler readers.

Ironically, I have not met any of the major actors from Home Alone despite meeting hundreds of actors. At least I have seen other famous parts of the movie.
