If you haven’t figured out how much I love San Diego by now, you haven’t been reading my blogs. You’re caught, ha! If you’re in the main Los Angeles area you can find yourself in one of the most unique areas in Southern California in just a little more than two hours.

This is one of California’s many natural gems. La Jolla will stun you with its 1,750-acre reserve created to preserve its namesake tree. This is an area that makes you feel like you’ve left California — or even the planet, honestly. It is a beautiful stretch of land dedicated to preserving many plants and wildlife you don’t find anywhere else. This is why you are not allowed to bring dogs or any pets anywhere on the premises. They have a strict pack-it-in, pack-it-out policy to keep the area as pristine as possible. They have a wonderful visitor center, also known as the Lodge, which offers so much information that will make your first visit much richer. We actually sat in on a little informational video that walked you through its preservation history and how this reserve brought the community together.
