The Frommer name is legendary in the travel industry. For nearly 70 years and more than 350 travel guidebooks, a website and podcast, the Frommer platform has become an industry leader.

It started in 1957 with Arthur Frommer writing Europe on $5 a Day while in the U.S. Army. It continues with daughter Pauline, who became president of Frommer Media LLC after her father’s death late last year.

In my Talking Travel interview with Pauline, I opted to bypass most of the history, which can easily be found on the Frommers website, to focus more on her thoughts on travel. Pauline spoke about current travel trends, including domestic travel.

She also discussed the overtourism debate, which leads to her “the next town over” thought when traveling. While certain cities might be bigger and more popular, most have nearby overlooked areas offering plenty of reasons for visits.
