Sofitel en Blanc

by Kimberly Inlander

Aug 3, 2018

I’m sure we’ve all heard of Le Dîner en Blanc or, at the very least, seen our social media feeds fill with photos of friends dressed in white at a fabulous picnic. Le Dîner en Blanc began three decades ago in Paris and has grown to more than 80 cities worldwide with more than 130,000 guests. Participation is either by personal referral or waitlist; the location changes annually and is a secret, even to attendees, until the last moment.

I’ll be attending the Philadelphia Le Dîner en Blanc this year for the first time, partaking in the Sofitel en Blanc offer. For the first time ever, the hotel company has been named the official luxury hotel partner for the event, and now guests in six North American cities can skip carting the tables, chairs and more to enjoy an exclusive experience at the already exclusive event.

The Sofitel en Blanc All-Inclusive Luxury package, available to a limited number of attendees, includes a welcome Champagne toast at Sofitel, luxury transport to a preferred departure point, an elegant tablescape (pre-set, no carrying required), a gourmet menu and selection of fine wines, an evening of revelry and dancing and a few special surprises. For attendees who would like to stay at Sofitel following the event, the hotel offers an event-exclusive rate of 20 percent off and complimentary breakfast.

Tickets are sold in pairs, and pricing varies from city to city. For those who would like to join the Philadelphia event on Aug. 16, a pair costs $600. The offer is also available in Chicago (Aug. 23); Los Angeles (Sept. 29); Montréal (Aug. 16); New York City (TBD); and Washington, D.C. (Aug. 25).

Coming soon, Sofitel and Dîner en Blanc International will launch a #SofitelenBlanc sweepstakes, open until Dec. 31. Participants will have the chance to win a trip for two to Paris or any Sofitel destination in North America. Stay tuned.

What Maui Visitors Need to Know

There’s a lot happening on the beautiful island of Maui and recovery from the devastating fires in Lahaina is underway. Among happy events is a gorgeous cultural redesign of all the suites and villas at Fairmont Kea Lani, plus the opening of the resort’s Hale Kukuna — a 2,000-square-foot cultural center that focuses on sharing Hawai’ian culture, traditions and history, with the goal of a reciprocal sharing of ‘ike (knowledge) and mo’olelo (stories) that link the island’s storied past and vibrant present.

Five Tips to Help Minimize Potential Travel Problems

Explore Portugal on a Wine Tasting Tour with a Touch of History

All it takes is one glance at the grounds of Quinta Dona Maria, which includes a grand villa and surrounding gardens, to realize wine tasting in Portugal comes with a good dose of history. The vineyard is located in Estremoz, just northeast of the first-century Roman ruins found in Evora. In 1718 King João V built this estate for his lover, Dona Maria. When she died, the current owner’s ancestors purchased the land and have been making wine ever since. Taste the wine, which is terrific, especially the full-bodied red Dona Maria Grand Reserve. Then venture inside a building that stores large amphora vases, including one dating back to the 1200s.

The Argosaronic Islands Are Calling

The Saronic or Argo Saronic Islands of Greece call travelers to explore its seven small islands and islets brimming with history, natural sites and more. With most easily accessible by boat, the islands’ proximity to ports of Athens make the Saronic Islands an ideal destination for those preferring shorter boat rides. In fact, trips from Athens ports to the islands take only between 10 minutes and two hours, depending on the island you choose, making them perfect for day or weekend trips. From Piraeus port, you can access Hydra, Spetses, Aegina and Poros directly. Come explore these stunning islands with us and find the inspiration to plan your next trip to these islands. Hydra Hydra town curves around a slope overlooking the Argosaronic Gulf like an amphitheater and is considered one of the most romantic destinations in Greece. Most unique to the island is its lack of vehicles. People on the island get around on mules and donkeys as well as water taxis, making for a peaceful and laid-back day. Hydra lies a two-hour ferry ride from Piraeus port in Athens.
