I can’t say I’m a fan of snow. I know this probably sounds odd coming from someone who spent four years of her life at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, but snowfall is such a way of life there, sometimes you don’t even notice it. It’s more of an event here in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. However, in this year of 2020, many factors that used to be a headache about snow days changed — like no commute to work!
I found the snowstorm that hit the Northeast this week peaceful for the first time in a long time. I was already at home when it started, and I didn’t have to drive in inclement weather. My husband finished an appointment nearby around the time when the storm started, so he also was home safe. I’d been out to stock up at the grocery store over the weekend, so we had all the needed provisions. I planned to make a turkey pot pie for dinner, so a hearty snow meal was on the menu. The finale of The Masked Singer (our somewhat embarrassing guilty pleasure) was on. The house is decorated for Christmas. Our association handles most of the snow removal, so that wasn’t weighing on us. It all added up to a perfect night to be snowbound.
And it had been about 18 months since our area was last hard hit and, during that storm, I was on a cruise ship in the Caribbean — so I think I was overdue for a true snow day (or night, really) in its purest form! Perhaps the snow will stick around for a white Christmas.
