I enjoyed a quick getaway to Savannah, Georgia, over Memorial Day weekend. It was my first time visiting the southern city, and I left with places on my list I didn’t get the chance to explore.

Experiencing local cuisine is always a priority when I travel, and this trip was no exception. Our first night we went to dinner at The Grey. Housed in a 1930s Art Deco Greyhound bus station, the restaurant serves seasonal, local fare. We shared multiple dishes family-style, and it was my overall favorite meal of the trip. The next day we had lunch at Savannah institution The Olde Pink House. The restaurant’s famous blue crab beignets were the best bite of the trip. The temperature was quite hot during our visit, and we cooled down with an ice cream break at Leopold’s. My peanut butter chocolate chip scoop was delectable. We also escaped the heat with cocktails at Artillery Bar. I loved everything about the spot, from the drinks to the atmosphere to the service.

Another must on our list was checking out the local history. We toured the Mercer Williams House, made famous in the novel and movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Later we went on a walking tour, stopping at some of the city’s most haunted locations. We also visited Bonaventure Cemetery, located just outside of downtown Savannah. On the Saturday of our stay, we visited the farmers market at Forsyth Park. It was a great way to experience Savannah’s oldest park.
