Over the last few weeks, my Facebook friends have seen me post several marathon-related pictures. I have been doing this for no other reason than to firmly cement my intent to make my marathon comeback in 2014.

Back in 2001, I fully intended to run my last marathon. For 14 years, I ran marathons in several cities to varying degrees of success (none really well, though), and I just lost the desire to do any more.

For several years I did not miss marathon running. I certainly did not miss the extremely boring training runs or the accompanying leg pains. I found a lot of other fun activities to occupy my time.

Over the last two years, something started to change in my mind. I think seeing how hard my wrestling friends at Resistance Pro work out might have nudged me a bit.

During the holidays, my niece Sam stated her desire to run a marathon, and my nephew Matt echoed that sentiment. This was the last push I needed to come out of my marathon retirement in 2014. For now, the plan is to run the Chicago Marathon in October. That plan may change, but I will run one somewhere.

My declaration is on Facebook and now it is on Global Traveler’s site. There is no turning back. I might occasionally update my progress here, but I definitely will report back here after the marathon.
