When you plan a trip for either business or leisure, how do you determine the transportation for your stay? As the options for getting from Point A to Point B increase, it can be tough to determine which is better: rental care or rideshare.
The recent wave of rideshare apps made the process as easy as a click of a button. Rideshares certainly gained lots of traction among my fellow millennials, but is it always the best option?
There are lots of factors that go into what may be “best” for your trip, and it often boils down to personal preference, but lately I leaned more toward rental cars for my travels.
If you are going on a business trip and have scattered meetings across a city or state, it may not be financially worth it to use rideshares — especially if you are subject to surge pricing in busy areas. For a leisure or vacation trip to a remote destination, you cannot always count on rideshares to be available.
Another thing to consider would be how long you will stay at your destination. Sure, rideshares may work for a one- or two-day trip, but if you were planning a three- or four-day or longer excursion, the cost of rental cars would almost certainly be lower than daily rideshares.
Finally, for me, sometimes I just like to listen to music or a podcast and enjoy the sanctity of a ride alone. I know lots of people enjoy using the technology of a rideshare all the time, but there’s cool tech in the rental car space, too!
For example, Hertz just partnered with CLEAR to give Hertz Gold Plus Rewards members the convenience of exiting the Hertz lot in 30 seconds or less using biometrics to verify your identity. All you have to do for this is roll your window down at the exit gate and the CLEAR kiosk verifies you through facial recognition. Pretty cool!
