In December, Asiana Airlines will merge with Korean Air. As I look forward to my final flight with Asiana in a couple weeks, I coincidentally found an old Wilshire Country Club golf hat with an Asiana pin on its side.
Since Asiana Airlines began operations in 1988, it expanded rapidly, becoming a global carrier with an 85-aircraft fleet. Currently it operates international and domestic passenger routes along with cargo routes throughout Asia, Europe and North America.
Asiana was always popular with Global Traveler readers. Throughout the years, GT readers voted Asiana the winner of more than 50 awards in various categories.
I have taken many flights with Asiana Airlines over the past 24 years with many great experiences. While I am sorry to see Asiana Airlines go, the merger will produce one large, fantastic airline. I look forward to future flights on the new and improved Korean Air.
