We’ve all heard of the three Cs, right? Character, compassion and commitment. But maybe not the three Cs that resonated with me just a little over a week ago … Culver City, California. As I wrote in a previous blog, my twin boys are living their dream in Los Angeles. Good ole dad had an opportunity to visit and see what the hype was all about.
Wedding season seems to extend later and later every year, but I’ve finally made it to my last one of 2019. And there’s no better way to close the year in nuptials than with a Friday the 13th wedding, complete with a full moon and a probably haunted wedding venue.
Whenever I’m not traveling over the weekend, I try to find some local festival or gathering to visit. I live near some pretty cool small towns, and there is usually something of note going on.
Last week publisher Francis X. Gallagher and director of sales Bill Lodzinski joined me in Los Angeles for a few days of meetings and learning about our partners’ 2020 initiatives. I personally enjoy when our team comes to Los Angeles; it’s fun to try new restaurants around the city I typically don't get out to and share a little bit of my hometown with the team.
This past weekend my boyfriend, a couple of friends and I took advantage of the lovely weather by attending Doylestown’s 28th Annual Arts Festival. More than 160 juried artists, live music, local food vendors, live art and interactive demonstrations make this two-day festival a highly anticipated one in Bucks County.
Back in August, three generations of my family visited a local U-pick orchard to harvest peaches for canning. At that time of year, aptly named Sugarplum Acres hosts a swarm of pickers among its rows of heavily laden trees, the fruit so low and dense on the limbs one needn't move or climb a ladder to fill a bucket or box.
Happy Friday the 13th! Are you superstitious? I’m departing today for Savannah, Georgia, to celebrate a good friend’s bachelorette party, and I found myself trying to remember if I’ve ever traveled before on Friday the 13th. I likely have, but I cannot recall. Then I started wondering about travel superstitions around the globe, which led me to this article and many others.

Welcome to Rhodes, a medieval treasure beautifully preserved throughout the centuries. Rhodes is the capital of the Dodecanese, an island ideal not only for those who want to relax, but also for those looking for an action-packed holiday! With its bright green hills, rich green valleys and uninterrupted line of golden beaches, Rhodes is truly a blessed place. “The sun island” has more sunshiny days and milder temperatures throughout the year than any other location in Greece. It is, after all, one of the country’s easternmost places and among the first to welcome summer on its impressive beaches. Add in the excellent facilities for tourism, the island’s special blend of cosmopolitan and traditional, and numerous cultural and archaeological sites, the most important being the Medieval (Old) Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and you’ve got the perfect holiday destination. While on Rhodes, don’t miss a daytrip to nearby Sými. An island of sponge divers and seamen, Sými used to have 30,000 inhabitants before the Second World War and was the richest island in the Dodecanese, despite its small size. Today, Sými attracts many visitors thanks to its beautifully preserved Neo-Classical buildings and the famous Archangel Michael monastery at Panormitis.
