A group of friends and I got together twice in January for a show at McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre in downtown Sarasota. It’s become somewhat of an annual tradition for us whenever certain comedians are in town, especially Dale Jones and Jodi White. The husband-and-wife duo are both Sarasota natives, and they never disappoint.

Another favorite is Orny Adams, who’s best known for playing Coach Bobby Finstock on the MTV series Teen Wolf, which I’ll admit I’ve never seen (and honestly hadn’t even heard of before this). But you definitely don’t need to know his TV work to appreciate him. On stage he’s absolutely hysterical, and he’s always gracious enough to take a photo with us after the show, which we obviously love.

There’s always a strong opening act, and more often than not, owner Les McCurdy makes an appearance. He’s just as funny and usually pops in to remind the audience to behave, something we all probably need from time to time, especially when there is a two-drink required minimum.

We typically wrap up the night next door at Raffurty’s Bar and Grill for a nightcap. And if we’re lucky, Dale or Jody will wander over and join us, which makes the evening that much more fun.
