Last week, Jackie Adam wrote about being antsy over not having any trips planned. I am on the opposite end of the spectrum right now. I am coming up on a stretch where I will be going on a bunch of trips, and I am a bit antsy about it.

Tomorrow I head to Detroit, MI for a few days of work. Later this month, I have a two-day trip to New York for GT’s wine tasting event. Early in June, I’ll be back in New York for five days of work and pleasure. Two weeks later, I will be traveling to St. Louis, MO for five days of work and fun. In early July, I will be in Milwaukee and Minneapolis for more work. These aren’t exactly exotic destinations, nor are they really even long or far trips.

While Jackie finds routine dull, I embrace routine as comfortable. Taking trips, especially in fairly rapid succession, takes me out of my comfort zone. I will admit that this is probably a good thing. I probably need to get out of my comfort zone. While I am not really seeing the world on these excursions, I am experiencing new things in new cities. I doubt I would ever think, “Wow, Thursday, May 21 was such a great time at home.”  However, I might be able to recall something new I saw, ate or experienced while on the road.

So, I will remove myself from my comfort zone, but I will take some Billy Joel CDs and Coke two-liters with me. I even promise to venture out of my hotel room beyond work demands. Of course, I’ll survive and probably be better because of the trips. I might even have a story or two to share here.
