Foodie Wedding in Philly

by Angelique Platas

Aug 27, 2019

Philadelphia weddings are almost as eclectic as the food scene, and that’s really saying something. Last weekend I attended a wedding that combined the two: the city’s incredible food culture and non-traditional wedding vibes.

The stunning event took place at Suraya, currently the No. 1 restaurant in the city. Located in the trendy Fishtown neighborhood, the entire restaurant was rented out for the wedding reception after a private ceremony in the courtyard — essentially, we had the run of the best restaurant in the city for one night.

With incredible Lebanese cuisine lined up along the bar of the kitchen like a family-style buffet, a separate appetizer table along another wall, constant pita service and passed apps, this was a foodie wedding for sure.

There was ample opportunity to stay inside and try nearly everything on the menu, but the flow of the room encouraged guests to head outside (despite the 90-degree weather and 100 percent humidity)

With a casual flow from the dining room, open-style kitchen and enclosed, open-air courtyard garden in the back, flowing from food and drink in the dining room to dancing and mingling in the courtyard was easy.

Another thing I couldn’t get over was the impeccable style of the restaurant. With Middle Eastern influences, muted tones with pops of color, intricate tile work and knitted textiles throughout the space, the subtle sophistication of the venue offered a stunning backdrop for an overall chic wedding.

I have no pictures to prove anything, as we had way too much fun to take any.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
