Congratulations to Global Traveler on its 5th anniversary! I am very proud to be part of such a great group of people. It took me nearly 20 minutes of walking up and down the street to find GT’s world headquarters. The address kept leading me to an old building, which was home to a real estate company. When I finally walked around the side of the building, I saw a small green sign hanging by the side door that read Global Traveler. It was not at all what I expected. As Fran puts it, it is a museum — with masks from around the world hanging on the walls and artifacts cluttering the shelves from our employees’ many travels. It was comfortable and different. And my experience here has been just that. I came from a job at a very large publishing company where I worked in a tiny cubicle and knew only three people out of the hundreds in the building. Here at world headquarters, there are only four of us in the office, so while I still only converse directly with three people, I am constantly interacting with the other GT employees who are all around the globe. And my desk is anything but a cubicle. My guess is that it’s an old dinner table that Fran picked up at a flea market. GT world headquarters is very unconventional, and I would have it no other way. And like world headquarters, Global Traveler magazine is irreplaceable and stands out far beyond others in its niche. Here is to many more years of success for Global Traveler! -Jackie Adam, advertising and editorial coordinator
