Oh little town of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania! I recently had the opportunity to experience a Christmas market in the other Bethlehem, but make no mistake, this is truly a Christmas city. During the month of December, near the historic Bethlehem Steel Stacks, the city hosts its annual Christkindlmarket. The market is both indoors and outdoors, featuring crafts from vendors ranging from traditional holiday décor to gift-giving ideas such as handmade pottery, Russian nesting dolls, etc.

The market upon entry was truly a sight to see. The lights were illuminated in red and green and clear igloos were available to lounge in as you entered the courtyard. Four lengthy tents await guests as they maneuver around the other excited shoppers. I personally enjoyed browsing the homemade potpourri stand and even purchased some fragrant fir-scented for my home.

The market has a small entrance fee and plenty of food vendors, bars, live music daily and shopping. I recommend stopping by later in the day to avoid major crowds and for the chance to see the beautiful light displays throughout the complex. My mom and I had such a special moment when we found a glass tree topper similar to the one my grandmother had growing up, which I ever so carefully would place on the tree. It’s elegant and elongated spear evokes our Eastern European roots; such a special purchase for me!

The city of Bethlehem is charming and perfect for a daytrip. Whether you wish to visit the Wind Creek Casino, local breweries or restaurants, there is always something special to be had in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania — a Christmas city! For more information on the market, here is a link.
