Brunch Fanatic

As I alluded to in my last blog, I’m a big fan of Sunday brunch. In my opinion, there’s nothing more satisfying than sleeping in on a Sunday morning, gathering a group of friends and heading to a favorite restaurant for a leisurely meal of breakfast and lunch favorites. While a buffet with plenty of options is ideal, I’ve also been completely satisfied by restaurants offering to-order brunch menus. I love the food and experiences that go along with the meal.

While on a January trip to the Cayman Islands, I enjoyed a truly delectable brunch at Ferdinand’s at the Westin Causarina Resort & Spa. The Sunday Champagne brunch features unlimited Champagne or mimosas and a seemingly endless smorgasbord of food. My friend and I were seated outside, and the attentive staff was always on hand to open doors for us on our trips to and from the buffet and to frequently see how we were doing and refill our glasses.

As cliché as it sounds, the buffet was truly one of those “where do I start?” moments. There’s a long station of breakfast items, including fruits, pancakes, eggs Benedict (a personal favorite), breakfast meats, oatmeal and more. The buffet line continued into the lunch items. Among the options were sushi, cheeses, fish and chicken dishes and a raw bar. The dessert table overflowed with options. To order, brunch-goers could have omelets made, eggs any style and Belgian waffles with a choice of toppings. There was also a made-to-order pasta station. I was too full to try any of the dishes from the chef-manned stations, as all the other options were incredibly tempting and satisfying.

Even if you aren’t staying at the Westin, if brunch is one of your favorites, this is an absolute must on your next trip to the Cayman Islands.

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
