Awesome Autos at Volo Auto Museum

by John Wroblewski

Jun 6, 2022

I am not a rabid car enthusiast, but I have heard so many great reviews of Volo Auto Museum, I wanted to visit. After seeing it for myself earlier this week, I see how it gets 250,000 yearly visitors.

Situated on 35 beautiful acres 30 minutes north of Chicago, Volo Auto Museum features several buildings filled with vehicles and other interesting exhibits. Established by the Grams family in 1960, it is still family-owned and -operated.Volo Auto Museum

Some of my favorite exhibits were

TV & Movie Cars
With many vehicles from the entertainment world, including Batman, Grease, The Fast and the Furious and The Munsters, this was pop culture paradise.Volo Auto Museum

Special Interest Cars
You’ll find an 1886 Benz, credited as the first car; one of the first monster trucks; and other unique vehicles.

Carousel and Music Hall
A 1927 Hershel Carousel is the centerpiece of this room. Fully restored, with 2,000 lights and hand-carved horses, this is a magnificent attraction.

Vintage Cars
More than 100 display cars and 300 collector and vintage cars on sale span decades of automobile craftsmanship.Volo Auto Museum

There are many other exhibits, including Cars of the Rich and Famous, Cars for Kids, an amazing jukebox collection, Jurassic Gardens and much more. I spent much more time than I planned checking out everything, but time flew. Everywhere I looked I saw something cool.Volo Auto Museum

Volo Auto Museum doubles as a classic car dealer. Marketing director Jim Wojdyla stated they sell about 50–70 cars a month. The most popular right now are 1969 Camaros, the ’70–’71 Chevelles and ’57 Chevys. I was amazed at the condition of cars 70 years and older. The amount of turnover guarantees a different experience with each visit.

A directional path allowed for a leisurely self-tour. Plenty of Volo staffers were on hand, offering interesting info and answering questions.Volo Auto Museum

My time at Volo Auto Museum was even more enjoyable than expected. I will definitely return to see what new treasure they acquired.
